Thicker, fuller hair starts where the buildup is

A solid shampoo bar of twelve fermented Korean herbs that clears years of buildup, unclogs the follicle and supports thicker, fuller-looking hair. Rub it straight onto a wet scalp for sixty seconds. Sulfate-free, no water filler, about a month to a bar.

  • Clears years of scalp buildup: Rubbed straight onto the scalp rather than poured over your hair, so the cleanser is where the residue actually is - oil, product film and dead skin that liquid shampoo runs straight past.
  • Unclogs the follicle: A blocked follicle is a follicle under pressure. Clearing it is the step that everything else depends on, and it is the step almost nobody does.
  • Supports thicker, fuller-looking hair: Twelve fermented herbs led by fo-ti, ginseng and rosemary. In a consumer panel 89% said shedding was visibly reduced and 94% said their scalp felt healthier. Individual results vary.
  • Dermatologist tested, sulfate-free, no water filler: It lathers properly without the squeak, and it rinses clean without the tight feeling. One bar is about a month, and there is no bottle.

It took three washes to trust it

The first one felt wrong because I kept waiting for the bottle. Now it is fine.

The tingle is the bit I did not expect

Rosemary, apparently. It is not unpleasant - you just know it is doing something.

My scalp stopped feeling coated

That is genuinely the change. Not my hair, my scalp, and only after a few weeks.

Wet your hair thoroughly. Rub the bar directly on your scalp in sections - front, crown, sides, back - the way you would run a crayon over paper. It does not take much.

Then put the bar down and work it in with your fingertips for about sixty seconds. It lathers up more than you expect once it is moving. Rinse.

Most people use it every two or three washes rather than daily, with a normal shampoo in between if they want one.

Western haircare treats the hair. Korean haircare starts at the scalp, on the reasoning that the hair is the output and the scalp is the thing producing it. Years of oil, product film and dead skin collect at the root and clog the follicle; clearing that is the first step, and it is the one almost nobody takes deliberately.

The twelve-herb ferment goes on next. Fo-ti and ginseng are the long-standing scalp ingredients in Korean and Chinese haircare; rosemary is the one with published research behind it. Most people see a visible difference in 6 to 8 weeks. Individual results vary.

If your scalp is sore, flaking persistently or losing hair in patches, see a doctor - that is a medical question rather than a haircare one.

Twelve fermented herbs. The three the formula is built around are fo-ti (he shou wu), Panax ginseng and rosemary - all long-standing ingredients in Korean and Chinese haircare.

Sulfate-free, vegan, no added water. The full ingredient list is printed on the wrapper.

It is a scalp product, so hair type matters less than you would think - the scalp under curly hair and the scalp under fine straight hair collect the same buildup.

If your hair is very dry at the ends, use a conditioner on the lengths afterwards as usual. The bar is not meant to do that job.

Colour-treated hair is fine. It is sulfate-free, which is the thing that usually strips colour.

No dish included - anything with drainage works, and letting it dry between washes is most of what makes a bar last.

Sixty days to change your mind, which is long enough to get past the first few washes and decide honestly.

Your scalp has been under there the whole time.

You condition the lengths, you buy the good stuff for the ends, you have opinions about frizz. The scalp gets whatever runs past it on the way down, which after a few years is a layer of everything you have ever put on your head.

Korean haircare inverts that. It starts at the scalp and treats the hair as the thing that happens afterwards.

A liquid shampoo is mostly water - you are paying to ship it and then rinsing it away. A bar has the water taken out, so what touches your scalp is concentrated, and rubbing it directly where the buildup actually is does more than pouring lather over the top of it.

Korean haircare starts at the scalp

Western haircare is organised around the hair - the lengths, the ends, the frizz - and treats the scalp as the thing shampoo runs over on its way down. The Korean approach inverts it. The scalp is skin, it collects oil and product film like any other skin, and a clogged follicle is a follicle working against resistance. Clearing years of that buildup is what the bar is for, and it is why you rub it directly on the scalp rather than pouring lather over the top.

Rosemary is the ingredient with the research

A 2015 trial published in SKINmed compared rosemary oil against 2% minoxidil in androgenetic alopecia over six months and found comparable results, with less scalp itching in the rosemary group. That is research on the ingredient, not on this bar - we are not going to tell you a bar of soap was trialled against a drug. But it is why rosemary sits in the blend alongside fo-ti and ginseng rather than in it for the smell. Individual results vary.

Twelve fermented herbs, no water to dilute them

Liquid shampoo is mostly water: you pay to ship it and rinse most of it away. Take the water out and what is left is the part that works, which is why a bar this size lasts about a month and why so little of it does the job. Fermenting is the step that makes this Korean rather than merely herbal - the botanicals are broken down before they ever reach your scalp. Sulfate-free, vegan, dermatologist tested.

What the first month looks like

Mostly this is about getting used to washing your hair with a bar, which is a stranger adjustment than it sounds. The rows below are what people report, in the order they report it.

Wash 1
Strange. You will reach for a bottle that is not there and use far more of the bar than you need. Everyone does.
Wash 2-3
You work out the technique - rub it on the scalp, put it down, then use your fingers. This is when it starts lathering properly.
Week 2
The scalp feels different first. Less coated at the roots, which is most obvious on the second day after a wash.
Week 3-4
Hair that is not weighed down at the root sits differently. It reads as more volume, because it is.
Week 6-8
The point most people describe as the visible one - fuller through the mid-lengths and less coming away in the shower. Individual results vary.
Ongoing
It is a shampoo. It works while you use it, and there is nothing to finish or maintain.

What people say

Three washes before I stopped missing the bottle, and now I would not go back.

Ashley, verified buyer

The tingle is real. I assumed that was marketing and it is just the rosemary.

Mathew, verified buyer

My scalp stopped feeling coated by about week two. That is the honest change.

Jessica, verified buyer

It lasts. I am five weeks in on the first bar and there is a chunk of it left.

Questions

Two ways. It is solid, so there is no water in it - what touches your scalp is concentrated rather than diluted. And it is designed to be rubbed directly onto the scalp rather than poured over your hair, which puts the cleanser where the buildup actually is.

Yes, though not instantly. Rub the bar on your scalp, put it down, then work it with your fingertips - it takes about thirty seconds to come up properly. Most people use far too much on the first wash because they are waiting for a lather that has not arrived yet.

Most people report a visible difference in 6 to 8 weeks, and the scalp feels different well before that - usually within the first two or three washes. In our consumer panel 89% said shedding was visibly reduced and 91% said they would not go back to liquid shampoo.

Hair grows slowly, so give it a full cycle before you judge it. Individual results vary, and if you are not happy at sixty days we refund the order.

About a month at every second or third wash. Let it dry between uses - on a dish with drainage rather than sitting in a puddle - and it will last noticeably longer.

It is a rinse-off cosmetic, so exposure is minimal. That said, it contains a botanical blend, and if you are pregnant the sensible answer to any new product is to check with your midwife or doctor rather than with us.

Individual results vary - the timelines and panel figures on this page describe what most people reported, not what everyone gets. A scalp and hair product, not a medicine: if your scalp is sore, flaking persistently or losing hair in patches, see a doctor.

The first wash felt wrong and then it clicked

I stood there holding a bar of soap wondering what I had bought. Third wash I worked out you rub it on and then put it down, and it lathers up properly once your fingers are doing the work. Now the bottle is the thing that seems odd.

Scalp feels clean rather than stripped

I have used the sulfate-free liquid ones and they either do nothing or leave my head squeaky. This is the first thing that has got the buildup off without the tight feeling afterwards. Second day after a wash is where I notice it most.

Mostly buying it to stop buying bottles

Bought it for the plastic, honestly, and the scalp thing was a bonus. It sits on a dish by the shower, it has not gone soft or slimy, and it has lasted five weeks so far at every second wash.

The tingle is the rosemary and it is not unpleasant

Somewhere between menthol and nothing. It fades after a minute. I mention it because nobody warned me and I spent the first wash wondering if I was allergic to something.

Good shampoo, and I would ignore the growth talk

My hair looks fuller because it is not weighed down at the roots, which is a real thing a good scalp cleanser does. It is not doing anything to my hairline and I did not expect it to. Four stars because it is a genuinely good bar and the category around it oversells itself.
